Next I turned my attention to the rocker assy. These were stripped ,blasted, polished then crack tested. When I was happy things were OK allthe oilways were cleaned then the 'splash points' were chamfered to aid oil ingress.

As the head I was refurbing has oversize exhaust valve seats(33.5mm) & standard valves are 29mm, new valves were called for. I discovered after a years searching that Datsun 240z ex valves should do (pic 1).So some were aquired from   http://zclub.net/forum/general-discussion/18094-240z-valves.html#post158067 .Next they were polished & lapped in.

Here is the lapping process. Then I come to the assembly. I'd previously bought 2 sets of valve springs & also had the Datsun ones as well, but all were different sizes & strengths. So I need to find out which one is correct (if any).

Tried the middle set, seem to be right ,they wiill compress more than the valve lift without being coil bound.

Found these on ebay, for a Simca 1500, but I thinkI can use them on this head. Will mean a strip down but thats the way it goes, all good fun!

Before fitting the rocker assy I did a trial fit of the inlet manifold and SOLEX twin 40 sidedraught carbs. The manifold has been polished, not for 'Bling' but to help reflect heat, a trick from way back was to paint the underside white! The servo take offs & the accelerator linkage IS Bling.
